Campustown
It is clear to any student who lives in Campustown or has even strolled through the area that there is a lot of work that can be done in the area. Campustown is defined as the “university impacted area” where many students work, live, and spend evenings in. The Turk/Peterson Administration wants to work with the University, the City of Ames, students, businesses, and the permanent residents to revitalize this area that is so dear to the students; and make it into a place that people want to visit when they stop in Ames. The Turk/Peterson Administration plans on working very closely with the Campustown Student Association (CSA) on the following projects:
- Beautify Campustown through a few smaller endeavors:
- Establishing color through flowers
- Adding artwork such as murals and statues
- Putting up new district flags in Campustown
- Working with the City of Ames to keep area clean
- Work with venues in the city and bands to have music in Campustown on Friday evenings.
- It would be very beneficial to students living and working in Campustown to increase parking. We plan to work with the city and CSA to begin looking at ways of increasing parking.
- Walking down Welch Avenue a person can find may places to stop and get something fast for lunch or dinner; we will work with the city, Ames Chamber of Commerce, and existing business leaders to encourage new and more diverse services/businesses to move into the Campustown area.
