The following positions are currently vacant within the Government of the Student Body. Below you will find a brief job description for the position and an individual to contact about applying for the specific position.

Associate Justices of the Supreme Court

Number of Vacancies: 3
The Supreme Court’s main job is to decide cases involving registered students of Iowa State University. This includes grievances filed by individual students or student organizations, organizations against other students or organizations, including GSB. One other role of the Supreme Court is to enforce and interpret the GSB constitution, and determine the constitutionality of actions taken by either the executive or legislative branches. GSB Supreme Court Justices also make up nine of the ten GSB Presidential appointments to the All-University Judicial Board. This board hears cases involving violations of the student disciplinary regulations and student handbook. Election Commission Members

Number of Vacancies: 5
The Election Commission is a body made up of six (6) full voting members, up to six (6) alternate members, and is lead by the Election Commissioner. These individuals oversee the entire election from monitoring and enforcing election laws, hosting debates, monitoring the online voting, and holding press conferences to provide information about the election. Members of the Commission are appointed by the GSB President, and confirmed by the GSB Senate. Once seated, they may remain on the Commission until resignation, graduation, or termination of student status at Iowa State University. Senate Seats Currently Vacant

Vacancies: Schilletter/University Village
The Senate acts as the legislative branch of GSB. The Senate meets every Wednesday night during the school year at 7:00 pm in the Memorial Union. During these meetings, the Senate discusses issues that affect the student body, including funding requests for student organizations, proposed policy changes either at the university level or at an external government level, and other topics that may come up from time to time. Each senator is elected to a one-year term by a popular vote of students in his or her constituency. In the event that a Senate seat becomes vacant during the year, the constituency council for that college or residence area must appoint a replacement who can serve until the next election. University Committee & Board Vacancies

Undergraduate and Graduate students represent the Government of the Student Body on a number of University and City of Ames committees, boards, and commissions. Students interested in topics such as university budget and planning, Parks Library, athletics, VEISHEA, and student affairs to name only a few areas, should explore applying for membership on these committees. All students serving on these committees, boards, and commissions are appointed by the GSB President and report on a regular basis to the Director of Student Affairs student representatives of University Committees & Boards are administered by the Director of Student Affairs and report to her office directly to inform GSB of actions that are being taken at the committee level.
