Census Information
Attention Iowa State Students,
The Twenty-Third United States Census is right around the corner and the Government of the Student Body is here to assist with any questions you may have about the process. Informational packets should be sent to your declared residencies in March for the April 10th Census date.
Census data is used to distribute Congressional seats to states in order to make decisions about providing community services and to distribute 400 billion dollars in federal funds to local, state and tribal governments each year. If students fill their census forms out correctly, this allows for a more accurate population of Ames, which will result in more federal government funding.
Many students struggle with filling out the census form. A helpful hint to get started is to list the address you live at for the majority of the year. For most students, this means the Ames address is the one that should be listed on the census form. If the Ames address is listed, this can be highly beneficial for the city of Ames, Campustown, Iowa State University, and of course, you. Secondly, everyone is required to fill out his or her census form so GSB suggests you fill it out upon its arrival.
