Role of Vice President
The Government of the Student Body Vice President represents all of the students at Iowa State University. The Vice President works with the President to share the concerns of students to ISU administration, the Board of Regents, the city and state officials, and others to accomplish student-based initiatives. The Vice President also serves on a number of University and City committees, commissions, and boards that the President appoints them to. The Vice President is also charged with chairing the Senate meetings and ensuring that Senate meetings run smoothly.
About Me
My name is Chandra Peterson and I am a junior majoring in political science and philosophy with minors in business and classical studies. I grew up in little Lake Mills, Iowa, and lived there my whole life. I started in GSB as an IRHA Senator and was re-seated as a Campustown Senator my sophomore year after I moved. I decided to run for Vice President and was elected last spring. I am also involved in Best Buddies Organization, Campustown Student Association, and other various boards and groups throughout the Iowa State University and City of Ames. I enjoy hanging out with my friends and keeping up on the latest movie when I have a bit of free time.
Goals for the Year
- Increase communication with students by moving Senators and Cabinet member’s office hours outside the office a few different times throughout the school year.
- Visit a different student organization every week to keep the lines of communication open between GSB and students on campus.
- Work with student groups to make the GSB financial process more transparent and more beneficial.
- Continue with the Fisher/Luttrell Administration’s effort to increase student awareness about the financial help that is available for students on campus.
- Work with the ISU Daily to keep students informed about what GSB is doing for them.
- Work on sustainability efforts by updating the GSB website with tips for students on how they can make their daily lives more green and launching a “Go Green” campaign to help students learn how to reduce their carbon footprint.
- Work with the GSB Finance Director and the Special Student Fees and Tuition Committee to keep tuition and student fees as low as possible.
- Work with the Campustown Action Association, the City of Ames, and Campustown Student Association to continue to revitalize the Campustown area.
