About Me
Hello All! My name is Mike Beals and I am a junior pursuing a double degree in Accounting and Political Science with an emphasis in Pre-Law. I am originally from West Des Moines, Iowa and the son of Larry and Cathie Beals. I began my time on GSB serving as the Ames City Council Liaison and continued to serve as a Senator for the College of Business this past year. I am an active member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity where I currently serve as President of Epsilon Chapter. I am also an avid sports fan, rooting for my beloved Chicago Bears and Cubs and, of course, our very own Cyclones. In my free time I enjoy hanging out with my friends, going golfing, watching movies, and arguing over politics. Someday I hope to be a politician on some level.

Goals for the Year
I have one major goal for this year; to work on Iowa State University’s student debt issue. This includes fighting tuition costs and unnecessary fees. From 1997 to 2007, Iowa State University’s tuition costs increased 71.2%. This has caused our students to graduate with debt amongst the highest in the country. Iowa State students graduate with an average $30,000 in debt. I hope to work in conjunction with the Financial Counseling Clinic, the Office of Financial Aid, and GSB’s student debt committee to help educate students on ways to help battle this rising issue.
