Role of President
The Government of the Student Body President serves as the official representative of students at Iowa State University. The President is charged with appointing GSB members, including cabinet members, the election commission and commissioner, Finance Director, and Supreme Court Justices. The President also has the power to sign GSB bills into law, or has the option to veto any legislation and is responsible with overseeing the efficient administration of the GSB offices and staff.
About Me
My name is Jon Turk and I am a senior double majoring in political science and sociology. I am originally from Bondurant, Iowa. I am an active member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and love living in and being a part of the ISU Greek Community. I began my GSB career my freshmen year as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, appointed by former President Emily Jensen. My sophomore year I made the transition to the Senate, being elected to represent the Liberal Arts and Sciences College and to be Vice Speaker. My junior year I was reelected as a LAS Senator and was selected by the Senate to be the Speaker. Outside of GSB I enjoy playing saxophone and clarinet, working as my fraternity’s new member educator, read, write, work as a teaching assistant in the political science department, hang out with my friends, cook, and collect/watch movies.
