Role of Finance Director
The Government of the Student Body Finance Director serves as the official Financial Representative of government, specifically the Legislative Branch alongside the Treasurer who serves in the Executive Branch capacity. The Finance Director works with ISU administration, Board of Regents, Campus Organizations Accounting, and others to make efficient the financial affairs of the Government of the Student Body. The Finance Director also serves on a number of University committees and boards, as well as appoints students at-large to the GSB Finance Committee. The Finance Director is charged with serving as the chair of the GSB Finance Committee, serving as the Analysis of Social Services and Evaluation Team staff member, overseeing the Regular and Special Allocations processes, reviewing all government accounts, approving storage and tagging all GSB funded capital equipment, and making sure all student organizations are following GSB financial laws and policies. The Finance Director also has the power to sign letters and documents to carry out the will of the Finance Committee, create finance subcommittees, and sign all financial documents as they pertain to the government.
About Me
My name is Tom Danielson and I am a senior in Civil Engineering. I am originally from Johnston, Iowa. I am an active member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and love living in and being a part of the ISU Greek Community. I began my GSB career my sophomore year as an Inter-Residence Hall Association Senator. My junior year I made the transition to a College of Engineering Senator. I served both year on the GSB Finance Committee, serving as the vice-chair my junior year. I was appointed as the Finance Director by Former President Daniel Fischer last year before being reappointed by President Jonathan Turk this year. Outside of GSB I enjoy playing many intramural sports, working with the Campustown Student Association, hang out with my friends, golfing and disc golfing, listening to music, and watching classic movies.
Committee Assignments
GSB Finance Committee, Special Student Fee and Tuition Committee, Analysis of Social Services and Evaluation Team, Student Organization Review Board, ISU Dining Annual Review Committee, Business and Finance Budget Advisory Committee, Recreation Renovation Project Planning Committee, and others as needed.
Goals for the Year
- Work with International Student Council to make them an umbrella organization for GSB funding purposes.
- Continue to try and improve the GSB allocation processes and increase ease and efficiency for student organizations.
- Update the GSB Bylaws to make them more user-friendly and more accurate as they relate to GSB finance.
- Establish lines of communication with GSB funded organizations to recognize them for their accomplishments throughout the year.
- Make updates to the online finance process to make the process of receiving and tracking funding easier.
- Work to keep increases in student fees at a minimum without diminishing services provided to students.
- Make sure allocations to student organizations are fair and efficient.
