ISU Extension is the face of Iowa State University to Iowa’s counties. This year, ISU Ambassadors will be working with ISU Extension to fulfill the outreach portion of our mission. In partnership with Extension, we will be hosting a group of high school students for a campus visit in the spring semester during which they will learn more about Iowa State and ISU Ambassadors.
You might hear some of the Ambassadors who have been in our organization in previous years talking about Meet the Future. Although we will not be holding the event this year, in the years past, Meet the Future of Iowa was a fall-semester event in which ISU Ambassadors and representatives from UNI and the University of Iowa gathered with Iowa community members and state legislators to discuss issues facing higher education institutions. This event usually included unstructured interaction between attendees, a banquet dinner, and relevant speakers.
Student Day at the Capitol is a special spring-semester event in which ISU Ambassadors and representatives from other Regent universities gather in Des Moines at the Capitol to lobby for higher education funding. This event usually includes a brief training session to refresh our lobbying skills, a press conference in the Capitol Rotunda, and meetings between students and their legislators.
