Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is GSB necessary?

A: Without the formal structure of the GSB it would be almost impossible to ensure that student voices were being heard in university, city and state decisions. It isn't logistically possible or reasonable for the Board of Regents or the City of Ames to sit down and talk with the 25,000+ students at Iowa State University when they are working on a new policy proposal. However, it is reasonable to sit down with the student leaders from GSB. In addition, there is a great deal of background knowledge, context, and research that goes into being an "informed" student voice. Students on GSB are actively involved in committees, projects and initiatives across campus. This allows them to look at the big picture and really recognize how their actions and the university's actions are affecting the student body as a whole.

Q: How do I rent a van for my student organization to use?

A: Download and fill out the forms here and turn them in to Risk Management. You can then pick up the vehicle that you reserved at Transportation Services on the day of your trip.

Q: Can I come to a senate meeting?

A: Yes, of course! Senate meetings are always open to all students. The meetings are held every Wednesday at 7 pm in the Campanile Room of the Memorial Union. We have a seating area to the right when you walk in the room where students can sit. Also, there is a section of the meeting called Open Forum, where any student may speak on any topic they wish.
